Welcome to my little corner of the internet
Horse-crazy and little girl are words that have long gone together. I was no exception. That spurred lessons at the lesson place around the corner- basic western riding and eventually barrel racing and poles at the local play days. But as a voracious reader (I literally read the entire children’s section of our local library while I was in elementary school), I quickly discovered jumping. Eventing, hunter/jumpers, foxhunting…it didn’t matter. I just wanted to do THAT!
So I did. Through out my child hood, into college and afterwards. I have always had horses in my life in some way. I spent 2 years as a professional groom/barn manager, have held every possible position at a boarding facility, and spent a couple years as a pro starting babies.
Then, I married a handsome soldier and embarked on a whole new phase of my adult life. Now, after 5 military moves, any number of barns and a handful of horses, I’m navigating adult life with a mile-long to do list, a family that always needs a little more, the always unpredictable military lifestyle and my own unfading NEED for saddle time.
It’s all about balance
When you boil it down, If The Saddle Fits chronicles my effort at balancing all the different obligations and needs wrestling for my energy and time. As a wife and mom, my home and family are a priority. I am growing a digital marketing and education business. I ride horses, competing my Dutch gelding in the Adult Jumpers and dressage. I have committed to getting fitter and healthier than I’ve ever been in 2015.
So basically, I’m spread pretty thin and sharing the lessons I learn in trying to do what I need to without driving myself crazy.
At The Barn
From lessons to clinics to shows to my favorite blankets and the tools in my tack trunk, I share what I’ve learned from 25+ years in the saddle. My years as a working student and professional A circuit groom may not make me the easiest boarder in the world (I might have a slight obsession with clean water buckets and accurate blanketing for the temps), but it gives me plenty to write about! Most recently, I’ve joined the ranks of Pony Moms as my son has started lessons!
Blogging and Community
As a professional social media expert and digital community builder, I LOVE to connect with and help other bloggers! I’ve spent years developing two blogger communities for the two niches that I belong to. These vibrant, active Facebook groups are a place to learn, grow and share your blogging adventures. Are you an Equestrian blogger? Join us at Blogging From The Barn. If you are a blogger affiliated with the military community, join Mil-Blogging.
Laced throughout my blog, you’ll find mention of the military community. My husband is an active duty Army Officer and it colors every aspect of our life. While it is a challenge – personally, professionally and with many of my goals – it is also a wonderful community to belong to. More than anything, I am grateful for the opportunity to live my life among heroes.

Getting Healthy In 2015
A new focus you’ll see in 2015 are posts on my efforts to lose the extra weight I’ve been battling as a result of a sub-functional thyroid. For my riding, for my happiness, for my health, I’ve come to the conclusion that whatever lifestyle changes are needed – they have to happen now. I got a solid start on my efforts in 2014 and learned how important it was to make myself a priority. If you have wellness or weight loss goals, I put together a list of the tools I plan to use.
And if you could use a little support in your get healthy journey (cause you know I do!), grab an invite to Saddle Fit – my no cost, no mandatory programs Get Fit Team.
Ride along with me for a little while.
