More than a Job
I had an interesting conversation with my soldier tonight. I asked him what he felt was the number one thing that the Army Wives he had encountered did not understand.
His response: That it’s a way of life, not a job. That the soldier can’t just leave it at work.
I think part of his answer was shaped by my recent complaints about him working on various projects at home but that could just be imagination. *wink*
Whatever his motivation, I think it is a valid point. Although I’m inclined to think that spouses experience that sentiment as much as soldiers do. For me, one of the most difficult parts of the Army Life is how pervasive it is- flavoring every aspect of my life. Where we live, the inability to set future plans with any certainty, days off, hours worked, even many of the social opportunities are dependent on the Army in one or another.
