Find Your Life Line: Writing

When I asked how I find the time/energy to juggle my varied obligations or when I bother to sleep, I simply explain that when you have something you LOVE in your life the inevitable hard days are worth it. I found my life line at the barn and in the saddle. Although the time I spend riding has waxed and waned over the years, I always return to this one thing that nourishes the best parts of me. So, I decided to ask my friends where they found their life line and how they kept going.

Meet Mandy:

I am a wife, a writer, a cooking enthusiast, and a mom to a kitty named Missy! I just finished my BA in English. I love to travel and explore new places. My husband and I have been married for over a decade and he is my biggest supporter in all I do. We currently live in Connecticut, but have had the opportunity to live all over the country in the past twelve years. We’ve lived in New Jersey, Virginia, Alaska, and Oregon! It is incredible being able to experience all the new places, people, and cultures!

What are you passionate about?

I have a passion for writing. It’s what I do and it’s a big part of who I am. Life is a story just waiting to be written!

How did you get started with it?

In Jr. High I took a creative writing class and fell in love! I have been writing on and off since then. It is only in the past few years that I have begun to pursue it as my career though.

What are the challenges to pursuing your passion?

The biggest challenges are finding the time and motivation to write. Sometimes life gets in the way. And sometimes the very real writer’s block takes over and the creative juices just stop flowing.

How does it benefit you and your family?

This best way my pursuit of writing benefits both me and my family, is the fact that it makes me happy. Doing what I love makes me happy and that in turn makes my family happy!

How has “adult life” and your other obligations affected how you pursue your interest?

Like I stated above, life definitely tends to get in the way of my writing. House cleaning, quality time with my husband, and errands all affect the time I have to focus on my writing.

What keeps you going when it feels like you have too much on your plate?

Encouragement from my husband is probably the biggest thing that keeps me going. There are definitely times when I start to get overwhelmed. Those are the times when my husband has a way of making me feel like everything is going to be alright.

What are your tips for someone with the same interests who isn’t sure if they can balance their obligations with pursuing their passion?

The best tip I can give someone who has an interest in writing is to sit down and write. Don’t let your own fears or insecurities keep you from pursuing your passion!

Tell me about your favorite life hack/organization tip/secret for success?

When it comes to writing, there really aren’t any hacks. There is no short cut for it. As for secrets for success, if it is your passion and you are making the time to do it, you are already successful

What are your goals for your hobby/business?

My ultimate goal would be to actually make a living with my writing. However, if it can influence one person the way my favorite writers have always influenced me, that would be enough.
