Healthy Superbowl Snacks

Whether you have changed the way you eat for weight loss, energy, or general health improvement, it can make social situations like Superbowl Sunday a challenge to navigate. Fortunately, the Paleo and Healthy Cooking blogosphere can come to the rescue! To get you started, I’ve rounded up my favorite healthy Superbowl snacks.

Can I be honest with you for a minute?

I don’t really care who plays in the Superbowl. I’m more of a college football kind of girl – although why anyone would spend the weekend at a football game when they could be at the barn or horse show kind of confuses me, but to each their own. However, when my husband’s favorite team makes the playoffs it is an excellent excuse to dress up my dog in a Marshawn Lynch jersey.

I usually head out to the barn for a ride the morning of the game after something delicious in the slow cooker. We snack all afternoon, often with a few friends and enjoy the spectacle of grown men (and a few women) jumping around like crazies over a game. 🙂

We’ve been following a largely Primal approach to nutrition for the last four and a half years so I’ve figured out what dishes are generally a hit with even the pickiest, non-Paleo eater. Here are a few of my favorites from around the web and some that I can’t wait to try this year!

I tweaked this recipe a tad less mango and more lime but they are DELICIOUS. Every time I’ve made them I’ve been asked for the recipe by everyone in the room.

I actually got this recipe from a friend when she made it for a party and I ate a substantial portion of the bowl. It is fabulous with vegetables or with chips for the non-Paleo folks.

I stumbled on this recipe when my husband tried a stuffed mushroom appetizer at a restaurant and was hugely disappointed. He requested a home made alternative so I sought the advice of Pinterest. I had everything needed for this recipe so it was a winner! A fortunate choice because he LOVED them. I’m not a mushroom fan – something about the texture makes me squeamish – but the crusty sausage top made all the difference!

I snagged this image from Pinterest because it’s adorable and, frankly, I eat my deviled eggs so fast I always forget to take a picture. Want a little twist? Throw some guacamole and lime in the filling and be ready to *swoon*!

Want to completely wow your guests? Whip up these little gems – and trust me, it’s so easy it feels ridiculous. I’ve also made this recipe using smaller grape tomatoes when I’m cooking for a larger crowd to keep it finger food size. With grape tomatoes, it is the perfect little bite of tomato, egg and avocado goodness (the bacon is a bonus!). A tip though, if you want to do grape tomatoes mash the egg and avocado mix until it is smooth and use a piping bag or sandwich bag with the corner cut off to fill the tomatoes. Also, you’ll want to make ALOT of these because they will be super popular. My 5 year old son regularly asks me to make him the “creamy tomatoes” for a weekend snack or his school lunch.

I’ll also throw a pork roast in one of my slow cookers (yes, I have more than one) for Cuban Pork. My husband can have a fabulously melty sandwich, I’ll have a lettuce wrap and we’ll share some spicy sweet potato fries – a slow cooker option with a distinctly pub food feel!

What will you be serving on Superbowl Sunday?
