Mama Kat’s Weekly Writing Prompt: Dream Home
Prompt 4: Describe your dream home…house, location, grounds.
My dream home. I could talk (or type!) for hours. The Soldier and I have spent many lazy hours and long drives discussing the details of our dream home- because any dream home of mine must also encompass his dreams as well.
We want a farm. A small farm. The farm would consist of a small equestrian event facility with hay fields. A 12 or so stall barn, large indoor arena, outdoor arena, basic cross country course and trails. The indoor arena would have indoor stadium seating and an overhead viewing lounge. The whole property would be perimeter and cross fenced. One of the outbuildings would be a shop- power tools and room to tinker on the farm equipment. Of course, the Soldier would need a tractor. A large, very loud one- he says.
Somewhere on the front third of the property would be the house. I would prefer a sprawling ranch- I tend to collect elderly dogs and they struggle with stairs. It would need at least four bedrooms. A great room style living area with a big sunny kitchen. The kitchen would need plenty of counter space and a place to pull up a stool- my family’s day has always revolved around the kitchen. A window with a view of the pastures to gaze out while drinking hot tea or venting on the phone about family drama. A large deck for BBQing, hanging out, staring out at all the things that need doing.
Somewhere near the house, there would be a half acre or so kitchen garden with raised beds. Rainwater barrels would help keep the garden green.
A little ways away on the same property, with a separate drive way would be a cozy 2 bedroom house with a deep front porch. For my parents to be close enough that I could be there for them if they need help, but still maintain their independence.
There are a thousand other small details of my dream home. They tie into the aspects of my life that are most important to me. I want a home where my family can gather- where I have space for people to visit and play. I want that home to reflect my outlook on life: filled with sun and room to grow. The farm/barn aspect of my dream home would be a culmination of a lifetime’s passion for my horsey hobby. Again, I would like it to be a place for growth. A facility designed to host clinics, inspections and Pony Club events.
So many details, so many dreams.

Sounds like heaven! I particularly like the garden, although, I would want a nice looking garden boy to help me with it! (JK) 🙂 Stopping by from Mama Kat’s.
LOL…I’m married to my garden boy 🙂 He’s pretty handy in that way.
I love your description of your dream home! Sounds like a great place to live!
Stopping in from Mama Kat’s. 🙂
A house isn’t really a home without the people, is it? Family, friends, and memories are what makes it really special.
