If your drinks are looking for a seat…
…then my lovely friend Natalie has the answer with this super easy DIY project.
{supplies}
ceramic, wooden, or cork tiles (4″ x 4″)
scrapbook paper or wrapping paper with designs of your choice
· mod podge
· sponge brush
clear spray paint or spray sealant (you can use glossy or matte finish depending on your preference, I chose glossy)
· Felt
ruler, pencil, and scissors
{putting it together}
1. Draw/trace and cut out squares on your scrapbook paper. I made mine 3″ x 3″ to get that white border along the edges, but you can do it as big or small as you would like. (Note: I used the corners of my scrapbook paper since that’s just 2 sides I don’t have to cut…I can’t cut a straight line to save my life.)
2. Using your sponge brush, brush a light layer of mod podge on the back of the paper and stick it onto the tiles. You may have to use a credit card or similar object to smooth out any bubbles.
3. After you’ve attached all of your paper to your tiles, let them sit for about 10 minutes.
4. Dip your sponge brush and brush a thin layer of mod podge vertically on top of your paper & coasters. Then let this dry– it took about 20 minutes…it may take more or less depending on how much mod podge you use.
5. Brush another layer of mod podge going horizontally across the tiles. Let sit for about 20 minutes.
6. Go outside or to a well ventilated area and spray a coat of clear spray paint on top of the tiles to seal them and make them water proof. Let dry for as long as it says on the spray paint can. Mine took about an hour. I found that mine wasn’t glossy enough and didn’t have quite the “finished” look I was going for, so I sprayed another layer on.
** Note: Make sure to read the instructions on the sealant/spray paint can. Mine stated to not place anything on it for at least a day since it takes a while to fully set and become waterproof.
7. After your coaster has dried, attach felt to the bottom of it. I found that buying the self-adhesive felt circles are much easier than trying to cut out pieces of felt and glue them on.

Thank you so much for putting a visual aspect to this! I cannot wait to make some of these and now I will feel much more comfortable giving it a try. 🙂
