Unexercise
Let me start by saying that I enjoy working out. Especially lifting weights. But it is very true that life has to change when a little one enters the picture.
I found myself in a position that I had to make some rather hard choices. Working out is a priority for me. It is a vital component of staying healthy and feeling good (and ask my Soldier- anything that boosts my mood when I’ve stayed up all night with baby has miracle potential). We have always chosen to work out at a gym. I find that, for me, I focus better and get more out of my workout if I go to a gym for the purpose of working out. But since the Monkey’s arrival, I found myself in a place where that just wasn’t feasible. At the moment, where we live means at least a twenty minute car ride to get anywhere. Add in there the time of getting baby and I in the car, him checked into child care there, and that really cuts into my available workout time.
I had an additional consideration. I have a horse. I’ve been riding since I was a kid. More than a hobby, it’s something that I am passionate about. That one thing I can always go back to that I know how to do, and do well. But, it’s a time consuming hobby. I have had to be deliberate about carving out the time to go to the barn.
So I had a choice to make. I choose the hobby that happens to be an outdoor, active endeavor. It means I’m happier. More fulfilled.
It’s unexercise.

hey, I’m a new follower! I love finding other army wives:)
As for your dilemma, have you ever tried Jillian Michael’s 30 day shred?? It’s an awesome, hard workout-and it’s only 20 minutes long with a 5 minute warm up and cool down. I have a four month old little boy, and I do it when he naps, or even if he’s awake, I’ll plop him in his baby seat and have him watch me!! If you’re looking to feel good and release some of those exercise happy endorphins without cutting seriously into your time, I’d highly recommend checking this dvd out!! 🙂 Then maybe you can do that AND go to the barn! 🙂
kayla- I actually have the Shred and the workouts sure do kick your butt! My little boy was seriously sleep challenged until the last couple months, so I haven’t been as consistent as I should be 🙂 I’m getting better at fitting in short workouts at home though! Thanks for stopping by.
